Question

framing nail went throug PVC pipe

the tip of a framing nail went through PVC pipe and it is nearly impossible to replace the pipe because it is immediately near concrete coming out of the floor. the nail is fastening a stud to a PT sole plate right next to the PVC pipe.

i can take the tip of the nail out but there will be a small hole. am i better off leaving the nail in ? if not, is there some compound i can use to patch the small hole in PVC ? it is also nearly impossible to fit a fernco sleeve over it.

a photo or two would really help here. are you sure the nail went all the way through the pipe? if so, you will undoubtedly end up with a leak, so yes, i believe it will need fixing. lucky for you we have some real geniuses here!

Is this PVC pipe under pressure, or just drain?

Either way, it can be patched via an epoxy compound. You can buy it at Home Depot.

Long term solution is to replace that section though.

If it isn't a pressure pipe you are in luck. There is patching material at your local big box stores or local specialized plumbing store.

And next time watch were you aim that gun.....8-}

epoxy will work and also you could cut a piece of a bicycle tub and cover the hole with that and wrap a hose clamp over that and then tighten it.

Put a fernco on it and it won't look so cobbled up. You will have to cut the pipe or the rubber bushing in two to get it on.
