fountain repair

I am trying to determine if I can rennovate an old fountain my father built many years ago. There first thing I was planning to test was to see if there were leaks in the pipes. Unfortunately I did not realize the pump was not working. Now I am trying to determine what is wrong with a Craftsman 1/2 hp shallow well pump. I have primed it. When I remove the bolt on top I can see water. When I turn it on I hear it buzz but after about 15- 30 seconds it turns off. I am assuming that is a safety to keep it from over heating. I don't know if I should call a plumber to try and fix this pump or whether I am going to have to a new pump installed before I can find out about the pipes. Would appreciate any thoughts or instructions if there is something basic I am missing in getting the pump to work. It worked a couple of years ago when it was last turned on.

Ayuh,... The pump sounds like it's Seized...
Take it apart,+ you Might be able to fix it,...
Otherwise, Replace it...

I agree that it is probably seized up. Remove the cover wherever the water enters the pump (most are through the bottom) and check the impellor. It looks like a fan blade and may have something stuck in it, preventing it from turning.
