follow-up from hot water short supply and question

hello everyone !

thanks to all who contributed expertise in responding to the mentioned thread.

it did turn out to be a broken dip tube. when i cut the supply line and untwisted the old one, the tube was broken immediately below the threaded top.

Q: now that i have the supply orifice briefly open, was wondering if there is a solution i can rinse the inside with that will take away some or perhaps most of the buildup that has probably gotten caught on the walls of the heater.

No. Don't know of anything like that except to replace the tank. How old is this water heater? Removing sediment if that is what you are talking about is done by connecting a hose to the drain and flushing the water heater under pressure usually to an outside location, but if you have never done this the drain may very well be plugged up.
