Floor Drain to Shower Drain

I was told that you have to jackhammer out the old floor drain in order to put in a shower drain. The reason the guy gave me was that the p-trap would clog and be virtually impossible to unclog. Anyone have anything to say on this matter?

Yes--you need to convert that to 2 nch pipe with a P-trap---

I just ripped out a shower that was built the way you were suggesting--it was a major failure---

best to do the job right--opening up a floor is not a big deal---$55--rents you an electric jack hammer and you are ready to start repiping.

This is completely false. You can remove it with a big ass bar aka an armstrong brand jack-hammer.

I don't know about the clogging part, but a floor drain is not the correct style of drain fitting for a shower.
