Flat snake stuck

My kitchen drain is causing the washing machine drain pipe to overflow. There is standing water in the overflow pipe. I have used a 20' snake that attaches to my drill. No results. I just went and purchase a flat metal kind with a metal bulb on the end. In less than 1 minute I Got it stuck. I entered the pvc pipe about 3 feet from the floor using the access port.

When I pull on the snake the pipe shakes. I can push it down about 6 inches or so and it sticks again. How hard can I pull? Any other suggestions.

Why is it that the simplest of plumbing job is always a pain. If I complete one with less than three trips to the store it is a moral victory.
