Flare unions and pipe dope when installing gas stove line
I've heard that one should NOT use either pipe dope or the yellow teflon tape on flare unions and flare union adaptors when joining the fittings of a gas stove supply line. I've been told these should be used only on the male fittings of black pipe. Yet many of the on-line-DIY instructions don't address this issue, except to discuss which is better, pipe dope or teflon? That's not my question. What's correct procedure when connecting these flare unions? Thanx

I think You'll will get alot of opinions on this.. I don't like & don't use the tape.. I use compound on all my threads . Flared or not. The flare seals the joint , but I can get the joint tighter using compound than just dry threads... Pipe compound doesn't stop leaks. It's just a thread lubricator
