fixing plumbing with a hammer

Even tho I've never had good success with using a hammer it doesn't stop me from thinking, 'this time a hammer will work.' No, it didn't

My sink traps are clogged. Tried to remove them but those plastic rings that hold the pieces together are impossible to remove. I think they must be glued on.

I thought ok I'll just hit the wing part with a hammer and loosen it. Wrong. All I did was break off the wing part.

Any suggestions on getting those things off so I can clean the drain?

thanks

Large pair of channel locks should work

The really large ones also work well for removing oil filters....I call mine my "universal removal tool"

bigger hammer

or if you want to try to reuse the fittings, a pair of appropriately sized channel locks work well.

got it fixed.

Decided to let the plumber do it when he was at the house. I should have peered over his should when he was working so I could see how he did things, but he didn't seem too fond of me on his heels.

You went to the "final solutions" drawer right off the bat? That's no fun, you need to be really angry and frustrated for the hammer to work properly in plumbing. That's why you only broke the wing off the fastener:laughing:
