Question

Finish plumbing

I have to install a shower head in a finished bathroom (tiled) however at the shower head all that is showing is a capped copper pipe. Do I need to remove any tile to see if the proper fittings have been installed or can I put another fitting on the copper to attach to neck for the shower head? Thanks for any help. I have to finish this within the next two weeks.

try grabbing the very end of the copper where the cap is and trying to unscrew it. There should be one of these in the wall : http://www.plumbinghelp.ca/images/Drop%20ear%2090.jpg

You should also be able to see (through the hole) the hex on the other end of the copper sticking out. We usually use trashed brass nipples or galvanized for that purpose so that the tile won't cover up too much of the opening that we need for the shower arm to come out.

If they've tiled up tightly to the copper, you may have trouble getting it out.

P.S. : Are you sure it's copper, and not a brass nipple?
