fiberglass as shower membrane

My brother says he has seen fiberglass mesh and resin used instead of vinyl or tar paper. Is anyone familiar with this method? How would you build up a slope with this system? I am fabricating a custom shower pan and this may be just what I was looking for.

fiberglass as shower membrane

I can see someone easily mistaking the Kerdi system for fiberglass. It is a waterproof mesh that is laid in thinset on the walls and floor. Check youtube for installation videos.

Actual fiberglass...No thanks. Never seen that done, never heard of doing it. If tiling, I'd think it would be a challenge for the thinset to bond to it.
