Fernco wax free toilet seal question?

I have a leaking toilet who's wax seal is all beat up, so I'm going with a Fernco Wax-free seal to remedy the slight leak I'm getting from around the bottom of my toilet.

I measured the horn of the toilet and it's 3", but my drain pipe's interior dimensions side to side are 4", I don't really think this 3" seal is going to seal correctly, there seems to be too much room side to side for it to seal right.

Any one else tried this seal going from 3" to 4" and have it work out OK? I know they make a 4" and a 4"x3" seal, should I go with one of those instead? Maybe get a spacer between the flange and the seal?

Thanks in advance from a 1st time DIY'er!!

Fernco wax free toilet seal question?

Why not just install a new wax ring? That's what I would do, and most people here will probably suggest the same.

I think wax rings are outdated and the weakest link in most toilet applications, I like these new seals and the reviews on them are nothing short of fantastic. Sometimes you have to re-invent the wheel and I think Fernco did with this one.
