Faucets are hot but shower isn't ?

I just installed a new water heater and have the temperature set to warm, I believe the recommended setting. If I turn the hot water on at one of the faucets the water gets scaulding hot, but the shower doesn't get that hot. I turned the temperature way down so the faucets wouldn't get that hot then when I jumped in the shower there was no hot water coming out, why is this?

I'll check when I get home, but both showers are like this and they are both different brands. Is it possible there is a anti-scauld setting built into the mixer valve?

Your problem is either caused by an adjustment inside the shower valve--many valves have an adjustment so a child cannot burn themselves. To find the adjustment you need to remove the handle and its usually pretty simple so see, its a removeable part that prevents the handle from turning so far. The other possible problem could be the shower valve is probably a pressure balance valve--a valve designed to not scald if a toilet is flushed--these valves have a spool inside that may get stuck due to particles in the pipe, water or when a valve is not used much. Check the handle first and see if that is the problem, if not, you need to tell us what the valve looks like and what brand name the valve is. Be specific as possible. Removing the spool and cleaning will require turning off the water. Just a warning, if you decide to remove the spool and you run into problems, you may have water shut off to your whole house until you get a plumber out depending on your handyman skills.

You probably knocked some gunk loose changing the water heater. The grit stuck in your shower valves being the smallest hole in system. Especially IF you have galvinized pipe anywhere in your system. Other forms of pipe arent as bad,BUT still prone to flaking!!
