Failing faucet cartridge
OK, here it is. My kitchen faucet seems to eat cartridges on an irregular basis. 3 months to 3 years.
This time when I pulled the cartridge there was an orange discoloration on the plastic body. I also observed the hot water comes out cloudy. The same occurs the on the bathroom faucet. The gas water heater is 20+ years old. Could this be the source of the problem? |

The heaters not the issue even though it's way over due for a change, far better to change it now instead of after it burst.
City water, well? Got a water softner? When the last time you had the water tested? Single handle or two handles? |

It is a single handle Price Pfister circa 198? It is city water and there is not a water softener. I considered replacing the faucet assembly.

I would not take the gift of a Price Pfister and I'm pretty sure some of the real plumbers will back me up on this.
As old as that is and how expencive Price Pfister parts are I just change the whole faucet. I like Moen or Delta. |

I think it is time for a new faucet---those Price Phisters are touch little units for a cheap faucet--but the valve body seems to wear out and a new cartridge goes bad early because of it---
Price Phister and American Standard should be looked on as disposable---repairing them is often a waste of money---- Moen--Delta and Kohler are much better choices--and have a lifetime free parts guarantee--

Many Thanks and I'm off to Lowes in the AM. I was looking at $129 unit the other day, minus 10% military discount. Will also check out water heaters & water softener
