Exterior Paint Prep Order

Hello folks,

I just looked over this forum and it led me to register. I'm a newbie at painting and I have several questions. I plan on painting the our house exterior eaves (house has brick siding).
I read to wash, scrape, sand, primer, paint or scrape wash sand, caulk, paint. Any ideas of what really needs to be done and in what order?

My main question is what prep work and what order i should do it in?

Thanks in advance to all who respond.
