extending gas pipes

Hi, Im working on a kitchen and I don't know anything about extending gas lines. I was talking to my plumber and what we need to do for our job is extend a main gas line from 270,000 btu's. from an 1 1/2 inch pipe line. But he wants to feed a flex line through the floor instead of using a solid pile. What I would like to know is, Will the Flex pipe decrease the amount of BTU's that will travel to my equipment, if I am using it at full capacity?

Your plumber should know the code, but I am not sure a flex line thru joists or the floor is legal. Flex lines are usually only allowed at the appliance. As for reducing the flow, if it size for size, no it won't.
