Expansion Tanks Questions

I bought one of those potable water expansion tanks that goes near the water heater. I was surprised that it had an adjustable pressure with a tire pump valve. (I was required to buy it by code of coarse)

OK - seriously, does a plumber actually check the exact water pressure first and then actually adjust the tank pressure. OR - do they just screw it on as it came from the box and forget about it?

I just can't imagine anyone would actually take the time?

What about leaks - will they add a 2nd drip pan to the code just in case this thing leaks? Or a giant $50 pan that can catch drips from both units? MAN - more and more code mandated gadgets that add to cost, complications and future problems...............

The bladder pressure is to control the pressure switch, which runs your well ( I assume you are on a well). It has nothing to do with incoming pressure.

EDIT: OK, it does have to do with incoming (from the well) pressure. It has nothing to do with outgoing (from the tank to the house) pressure.

Sorry - I wasn't clear enough

This is on a municipal piped system with streetside water meters.
The tank is a small (2gal?) that just attaches to a "t" fitting just before cold enters water heater.

It is required (I beleive) because newer water meters have a backflow preventer and supposedly pressure from water heating can build up and cause havok. In other words "WATTS regulator co." came up with a $30 code mandated item that you are required to buy! (I digress)

Nothing to do with well water systems.
