Easier way to redo silicone caulk around tub?

I've had to chip off and replace that silicone seal between the tub and wall tiles a couple of times (because of ugly mold growth in the silicone), and I've found it to be extremely time wasting. I've tried a couple of caulk removing products but they've all been useless. Have you guys found any products that can remove silicone caulk without damaging the plastic or tile surfaces?

Sharp, single edge flat blade razor blade...several hours & a few cold beers.

If you are having to (literally) "chip" it off then it isn't silicone. Until you can determine what it is or use the correct terms then there is little anyone can do to help.

Marbledust has offered your best solution.

I agree. and a radio tuned to your favorite station helps the time go by too. It's a tedious, aggravating job, and i haven't found a quick way to do it either. Might as well get comfy and enjoy yourself!

I did it. I hate it. Took forever, but done now.

There has GOT to be a better way

The razor blade, cold beer, and good music is probably the best advice. However, when you re-silicone, use mold resistant stuff..AND if you do get some mold, don't wait until it becomes a big problem. Keep your tub clean with bleach every once and a while, and you will never have to do this ugly job again. You know the old saying 'A stitch in time, saves nine"

I too spent a good amount of time doing this. I started searching for a better way and found the thread below.

Not sure if it will work, but I will try his cleaning formula next time when I see mildew in my shower.

Brings up a good point....cost factor for projects.....it's not just the material but how much beer, chips and salsa it takes to complete the job.
