Drywall around a tub/surround

Hello all,

I'm finishing my basement bathroom. I read that I needed a 60" rough-in for my tub, so I did that. I put the tub in before I sheetrocked because I watched some videos on tub installation and they didn't have it in. Also, with a 60" rough-in, the extra 1/2" space that sheetrock would have taken would have made it so my tub wouldn't fit.

So, the tub is in (permanently), and I'm thinking about the surround. Clearly, I'll want to have the moisture resitant sheetrock behind the surround, but I'm starting to wonder how this is all going ot line up where the surround meets the tub. There is a bit of a lip on the tub where I screwed it into the studs, and I assume the sheetrock will overlap with that. I'm wondering if this leaves space for my surround, or is that going to be raised?

Did I screw up by not planning for sheetrock to be behind and around the tub?

Thanks in advance!

If that tub gets a fiberglass 'surround' there will not be any drywall behind it. those get attached to the studs---then the room gets drywalled.

Please clear up exactly what you are hoping to do.--Mike--

Interesting. I always assumed that all the surrounds had to have something solid behind it. When I get home I'll pull it out of the box and see what type it is. My wife just kinda picked it out and said "I want that one" so, I'm not sure if it's fiberglass or not.
