Drive point for irrigation

I used a 1 1/4" drive point tied into a 2" galvanized pipe got down to about 18' with 5' of water. The problem is that I always lose the prime, despite having a foot check. The pipe doesn't leak, and the foot check does seat. But if the system stays off for more than an hour or so, I have to re-prime.

I am considering boring 6" abs pipe in order to install a 4" submersible pump.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

This setup is strictly for irrigation purposes (ours).

Install a check valve on the suction (well) side of the pump up near the pump to hold prime if your foot valve isn't.
Good Luck!
