Dripping from NEW pressure rreduction valve

My Mom had some work done at her house about a year ago.
She said she has never turned the water back on after the construction.
She has been living elsewhere.
I went to turn on the water at the brand new off-on valve and about a foot away from that is a brand new conbraco 36c-904 pressure reducing valve that drips like crazy out of the adjustment bolt. Nothing I did stopped the drip. I took the bolt completely out and tried reinserting it again but it still leaked like crazy. I'm guessing that this is not normal for a NEW piece of equipment. Any suggestions? Replace the unit? Teflon tape? I doubt the contractor will come back out a year after the fact.
Any help is appreciated folks.

sounds like warranty issue to me,call the plumber back

Even after a year has passed from when he did the work?
The warranty will cover the cost of the valve... but not labor?

not all of us plumbers are as cold hearted as people think,give him a call and see what he says first

Thanks Guys, I'll make the call tomorrow. But just in case,
can these be repaired? Why would it leak and would teflon tape on the bolt help? Replace the valve? Just in case...

IMO- -The diaphragm inside the PRV has dry-rotted from just sitting there, and probably with pressure on the adjustment screw side. Some PRV's can be re-built. But, this usually takes longer than replacing them. Call the plumber who did the job. David

You shouldn't have to teflon tape the bolt. The ones we use made by watts have rebuild kits available for them and are actually easier to rebuild than removing the darn thing, ESPECIALLY if it's buried in the ground.

If he doesn't extend any warranty, I would understand. It did sit there an entire year.
