downstairs toilet now leakiing after replacing upstairs toilet

I replaced an old toilet with a new toilet in our upstairs bathroom. since the replacement there has been leaking of water around the base of the downstairs toilet.

When you flush the upstairs bathroom toilet there is what seems like bubbles of air coming up through the water in the basement toilet. Then when the basement toilet is flushed water leaks around the base of the toilet - a lot of water.

any ideas what is happening?

The two have nothing to do with each other as far as fixing one and the other one leaks. Just change the wax ring under the toilet that's leaking and see what happens.
If the bubbling and sucking sound keeps up it may be a pluged up vent line.

When you had the upstairs toilet removed, did you plug the hole with a rag or something?
If so, maybe you forgot to remove the plg and when you first flushed the new toilet, the plug washed down and plugged the downstairs toilet!

Why did you have to replace the upstairs toilet?

It's likely that there was a bigger problem which led to that toilet failing - and replacing it didn't fix the problem at all.
