does anyone know what this brass end piece is?

Does any one know what in the world this piece on the end of this hose is? I am a smog shop owner in California and these fitting 'probe tips' cost $30-60 ea! They got to be cheaper to make!

It is a component in an engineered, tested and approved assembly.

Of course they are cheaper to make than the $30-$60 resale price.
They would have to be.

I'm curious as to why you need new ones; because they wear out or get damaged?

The guy we buy these from is a parts guy selling them out of his truck bed. He makes them in his garage but won't tell me what the tip is. we have to do a vacuum test every 3 days on these components to ensure they do not leak at all. Its not used in a way that anything can explode or harm anyone. It just sucks the emissions from the tail pipe to the smog machine. That break Left and right.

The 'probe tip' we are using right now is a tip that is poorly made. Where is screws to my sample hose its just a ton of solder to seal the hose to the fitting and the newer one we got last week is crimped on both ends. The guy said ' these are easy, takes me 5 mins' but won't tell me anything about the tip.
