does anyone have any fears of these tubsets?

I had a local box store close recently and bought enough plumbing fixtures for my whole house remodel. I ended up going all Moen as I've always like their styling and the nice tight action of the valves.

I was speaking with a friend of mine who evidently has a family that is steeped in plumbing, and we were talking about my renovation and she said, "just about anything you buy nowadays is fine, as long as it's not Moen."

Whhhaaaa? Evidently she has been privy to a lot of catastrophes involving Moen because they use some plastic in their construction. Obviously in a tub set this would be a disaster after you've just gone to all of the time and expense of a full bath reno job. I was a bit concerned when I installed it (haven't buttoned up the walls yet) and saw the plastic interface between the handle and the actual valve shaft. Although a bit hokey, I figured it would be easy enough to fix should it break since it is completley outside the tile surface. It also might theoretically be a good thing since there is no way that a gorilla or a falling granny could put so much pressure on the plumbing that it breaks anything behind the wall. (just kidding about granny).

Beyond that one part though, does anyone think there is anything substandard about the valves that would make me want to consider changing in a better one? When it does wear out, is there anything in it that can't just be replaced through the handle?

Thanks
Eric

Most valves, including moen, sell replacment parts, and most of the minor repairs can be done without removal of walls, just by removing the face plate. I use Moen and Delta all the time, never had a major problem with either....knock on wood!:whistling2:

you dont have to remove the face plate to make an repair, and moen is top of the line in tub and shower valve.
