divert, spout, overflow and drain dont aline..

so i installed a new tub, and for some reason the diverter, spout, overflow and drain do not aline. The previous home owner appeared to have furred out the studs. As it stands, the fur is stopping me from sliding all the plumbing over to aline with the overflow and drain. can i remove the fur where necessary and sister another one next to the stud. Basically another stud and fur on the other side?
