Dishwasher drain

I Am installing a new built in dishwasher , but it is a long way from the sink. There is easy access under the floor to the drain, but the instructions are pretty strongly saying I have to connect it above the sink trap. I don't see why this should be necessary since the drain hose from the dishwasher first loops from the bottom drain of the unit , around the side of the unit and up nearly to the top of the unit before dropping back down to the floor. Isn't that a sufficient trap?

No it isn't. It doesn't have a vent, so it doesn't act as a proper trap. It could siphon itself out and . . . . well you know the rest.:nuke:

Is there some structural preclusion that doesn't allow you to run it to the sink?

The dish washer ended up about 12 ft from the sink and on a different wall. It's a u shaped kitchen with the sink at the bottom of the u and the dish washer at one end. I could put a trap in the abs under the floor but I guess that wouldn't help the venting.

If you can get under the floor to put a trap under there, you might as well run it over to the sink and up through the bottom of the cabinet.

That's a longggggggggggggg way from sink to DW. Do you intend on using the DW? Might want to rethink location IMO.

Good point. This all assuming that you're not exceeding the output capabilities of the pump.

So...Just putting a trap in the crawl space under the floor won't cut it?

Can it be properly vented?

The sink drain is vented through the roof. I'm not sure if that would be enough venting for the dishwasher. The kitchen is a U shape with the sink and vent at the bottom of the U, and the dishwasher at one end. The drain pipe from the sink goes straight up the middle of the U and out the top to the main stack, and I currently have the DW draining into a T connection at the top of the U. From the vent stack to the T is about 6 ft, and from the DW to the T is about 5 ft.
