Dishonest Plumber Left Major [Expensive] Issues
We had a major remodel that was nothing short of being like sequels for "Dumb and Dumber" and "Nightmare on Elm Street."
The Plumber did not properly install a second floor children's bathroom bathtub drain and also simply forgot to sodder a copper water pipe behind the wall of the bath/shower. This bathtub is above the kitchen/dining room area.
After someone had taken repeated showers/baths in this bathroom, we got a huge flood on our dining room table and the beautiful wood ceiling in the dining room was warped, and totally damaged.
Additionally, we also discovered that this same plumber did not bother to complete the process of having a floor drain actually go somewhere once he routed it to the basement. We later found that the GC on site "did not notice" or was in cahoots with the plumber and put insulation over the floor drain [for a second floor clothes washer]. This drain went nowhere.
Now, we need to figure out WHERE this drain should be going. Should it be attached to the waste drain or exited outside?
FYI: We were left to deal with the dining room mess on our own after discovering this horrifying oversight when the flood from the upstairs bath happened. We had to pay, out of pocket, an 'honest' GC along with his own plumber to rip out our brand new dining room ceiling, repair the plumbing, and then rip out the necessary amount of bathroom Marble tiles to get to the plumbing behind the shower handle/unit in the shower.
This was a nightmare. Caused by XXXXXXXXXXX CT. He did not care about his lack of professionalism, and even had the nerve to give us several 'Change Orders' for outrageous prices WITHOUT first getting our approval and signatures for such Change Orders. They were "surprises" for us, new homeowners.
We later found out from more honest builders that this is totally illegal to do and the homeowner does not have to pay any such Change Order unless it was discussed, and signed off on prior to the supposed work being done.
The night mare was beyond description. Can't believe the lack of professionalism. :furious::furious:
Should we take this plumber to small claims court [which could never cover the cost of what we REALLY paid out of pocket for the repairs] or should we just send a letter of Complaint to the CT Dept of Consumer Protection, Dun and Bradstreet, etc.? What can the homeowner really do?
Do both and all you can including the BBB, how about dragging the GC into the action to, that story wreaks rediculous, and these guys need to be shut down permanently.

Thanks for the replies. Glad someone out there has noted that this was a bad job, as the homeowner is too often mentally and emotionally played with on these issues.
I suggest you talk to a lawyer--you should be able to recover all losses---marble--plumbing--ceilings and paint---the whole shebang.
Did the GC hire the bad plumber?---He's legally obliged to pay you back--Mike---
