Disgusting Water

About a month ago I bought a new fridge that has water and ice. So I soldered 1/2 copper to an ox box in the wall and have braided stainless steel going to the fridge. Well today the water tastes bitter. I had just broken it in and got the plastic taste flushed out and now this. It is a brand new Whirpool if that helps. I did buy the extended warranty but the service company still wants to charge me $70 for mileage so I want to try and figure out the problem first. Oh and all the other water in the house tastes normal, maybe a little chloriney.

It may be the rubber in the line of the stainless.

If you soldered a copper joint, you may have used too much flux. In any case, you should flush the water line thoroughly and then reinstall it. You also may want to consider installing an icemaker filter on your water line. Hope this helps.

I was thinking about the flux, but I flushed the line before hooking up the fridge. Also I have been running water out of it trouble free for a few weeks now. I will however try and flush it tonight, that seems like the cheapest and easiest solution.

Another option I forgot to mention, Nick, might be to replace the stainless steel braided line with semi-rigid plastic tubing. You might find that this will also correct the problem. Good luck!

I thought Braided stainless is supposed to be the best? You are the second person who thinks it might be the problem. I'm gonna have to check it out.

Poly line is better for taste. Use a filter to.

Disgusting Water

Sorry I have been gone a few weeks and finally got a chance to look at the fridge. I took the fridge out and tasted the water coming from the supply line and it smelled so bad I didn't even have to taste it. THen I tried the water coming from the cutoff valve it was connected to, and it was normal. SO now I guess I have to go get a new supply line. I was thinking cpvc braided line, or would that possibley give me the same problems as stainless?

Thanks for the help guys!

I replaced the line with semi ridgid Poly and the taste is gone!!!

I decided to do that over cpvc, since I figured it was the safest for no taste. There is a plasticy taste but I'm sure it will go away like the first time.

Thanks for everyone's help!!!
