Difficult Airlock Problem?
The hot water in my kitchen recently stopped working and I'm looking for solutions. It has happened once before, and I tried the traditional airlock solution of hooking up the cold water main line to the hot water feed in the kitched, which worked. This time though no dice. it has been very cold here recently, so maybe there is a frozen pipe issue, but none of the other pipes in the same vicinity are frozen, and this pipe is also insulated.

Also, and interestingly, I tried to drain the hot water tank to reduce the back pressure, but the tank wouldn't drain (turned off the cold water feed, turned off the gas/pilot, opened another hot water faucet, and opened the drain valve - nothing but a trickle). Seems wierd.

Any other ideas? I've thought about using hooking up a pressure washer to the hot water feed to try and increase the pressure to blow out the airlock, but I'm concerned this could damages the pipes.

Anyone dealt with a similar problem? Should I just bite the bullet and call a plumber? Help!?!

It' not really possible to air lock a pressurize water line. You simply open the faucet the water pressure pushes the air out until you get water.
I think your idea of a frozen line is possible.

Copper in part , cast iron in part.

A time ago there was some water heater that the dip tube went bad, don't recall the time lime, you could have one of those heaters and parts of the dip tube is finding it's way to your faucet. Just a possibility.

How old is your water heater?
