Delta Rough-in Valve?

I few weeks ago I asked for opinions on shower valves...

Delta, Moen and Grohe seemed the top contenders....

So....in my searching....using Delta as the example....I can get just about any shower handle I want....but does not include the valve....seperate item...most of the handles refer to the R10000-UNBX valve.

And then I hear discussions about residentual vs contractor grade plumbing fixtures.....i.e., the stuff you get at HD or Lowes is not as heavy duty as what a plumber gets at a plumbing house.

Is this Delta valve the same part the professionals would use?

The delta valve is a unibody, meaning you get single control OR dual control within the same valve body, and when you buy your trim package, it comes with the cartridge needed.


I'm pretty sure that we CAN buy them as a complete package... rough in valve, and trim....... but most of the time, the rough in and finish are so far apart, it's not worth having 20 boxes of trim kicking around on the floor, so we just stock R.I. valves, and buy the trim as needed. Besides, most people change their mind about 40 times during the construction process anyway.

A word about the Delta Rough in valve----It comes with a test cap---if you don't have the circuits isolated with separate shut off valves you must remove the test cap and install the cartridge right away---or you will have 'cross over'---that dreaded situation where the hot and cold water mix and warm up a surrounding fixtures.

Cartridge? The RV does not include the cartridge? What is the 'cartridge' you speak of?

The rough in valve is just the valve body---no guts---Delta makes lots of different gut--all fit the same valve body--

Want a simple on/off warm cold---or preset temp--then just turn on? there are others,too.

Pick the guts out---or isolate that bath from the house until you do figure out what you want.---the preset option is nice---but I like simple,myself---

Glad I asked the questions....I'm used to just buying the whole package....

Now I kind of see why you guys like Delta....in terms of flexibility....pretty straight forward. I'm assuming they will be making cartridges that fit the rough in 50 years from now...
