delta monitor won't get hot water

i recently helped a friend plumb a house with three delta monitor 1400 series t/s faucets and they will not get hot water. i have turned the scald gaurd all the way up, all the way down, removed the brass stop limit screw to turn the scald guard higher, took the scald guard out, flipped the cartridge, took the cartridge apart, checked for debris, flushed the valve body out, and finally replaced the cartridge. any other suggestions before he buys new faucets?

Are you sure the hot water supply was not turned off at the heater or the cold supply to the heater? Are the other faucets in the house getting hot water? It sounds like you have done what needs to be done. The 1400 series is pretty easy to work with. Even if you had the cartridge in backwards it should get hot in the 'Cold' position. The cartridge is marked with a 'Hot Side'. I doubt that there is a problem with the valve body, unless you somehow managed to clog it when soldering.

yeah the heater is all the way up, the lav faucet two feet from the tub is getting 140 degrees. all faucets are except the three monitors. i installed six in a state park the week after these and have no problem from them and have installed prob 100 over the past five years. baffled. and it's cpvc instead of copper, and i have cut out and re-piped thinking maybe a glue bubble on the hot side was restricting flow.

did you install shutoffs? if so you can shut them off and pull the cartridge then crack open the hot valve and see if you get hot water through the body. if you don't then you have a problem with your water line. if you get hot water and get full force the maybe its the spools.

The fact that you have installed so many assures me that you have a very good idea of what you are doing and not just a 'neighbor offering a helping hand'. Mentioning CPVC does bring back a job where I installed a shower valve and the next day the home owner stated she was now having a problem with the hot water in her kitchen. It was a standard Delta single handle faucet, so I took the handle, ball and seats off and found what appeared to be flakes of CPVC stopping the hot water from passing. Flushed it out and all was well.
Though it would be very improbable that this is what is causing the problem with ALL three valves you just installed, it might be another thing to look into. Hard to do by yourself, but if you have a helper, you could turn off the water, remove the cartridge, then have your helper turn the water back on momentarily to flush the lines and try it again? Just a thought... Let us know what you find out.
