Culligan Mark 89 stuck on flush...no regen..

Hi, newb to this site but use it very often and thank you all for helping over my years of lurking!!!! I have read hours of posts on my particular problem but still unable to solve it and really take great pleasure in solving these things without a a service call and its not just the money. Well as stated in subject it seems to do nothing but flush (drain into shower stall) on any stage its on. i have pulled piston and checked O rings all are good and seem fine re-lubed and put back in. (piston was very hard to pull in and out by hand but lubed it a bit and seems good now too as controller seems to move it without a problem). i have checked screen on top under silver plate (the name escapes me...)and its clean. it uses no salt and water is hard. can blow air though line connection brine and mineral tank. im sure im forgetting something.... Oh well any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

It could be the eductor is broken. That part pulls the brine from the tank.

You have gone through and cleaned up the main piston , did you do the upper piston or the brine piston?
One the back of the culligan valve is a 3 screw plate, did you open that and clean all three parts? the screen the injector holder and the little blue or tan injector?

I did the white upper piston I guess?? Had like 4-6 tiny o rings?and under plate No I only cleaned screen wasn't sure that rest came out. Seemed like 4 little tips came up to hold that screen. So I can pull that out too? I believe it was blue underneath. Thanks! I'm gonna look.

There are about 6 o rings on the main piston of the brine piston assembly.

The screen is held by say four fingers... but one needs to pull out that part that holds the screen. There are three parts there the main holder that at the top has the 4 fingers for the screen and then the nozzle that is either blue or tan and an o ring.. make sure that it is clear and nothing is in that little hole.

ok, pulled and it was clear.

is the eductor more than what we are talking about here? the screen, and nozzle?

It's covered. The eductor is the white piston above the large piston(Cullligan calls it a seal pack).

If the parts under the metal cap are clear then it is possible for one or more of the o rings on that brine piston that is on top of the motor that is run by the white cam to have a tare or more and not forming a 100% suction from the brine/salt tank.
Simplest to just replace that assembly.

part 26 and 40, they are the housing and piston.

yankcrime74 11-09-2013 01:34 PM

Oh wow thanks. 40 is what I was looking at along with main one. So looks like 26 pulls out just like main did ill check. Thanks!

Cullligan sells a rebuild kit that contains both pistons and some other parts. It's around $130. You can get them from your local dealer.

Some times there are kits for sale on E B A Y for under 100.00 so take a look see and find out if there are any for sale.

yankcrime74 11-11-2013 05:28 AM

Ok well all "seems" good. So maybe I'm mistaken good though. Is it possible seal pack can need replaced and malfunction without any visible signs?

Akpsdvan 11-11-2013 11:29 AM

If an o ring has a tear in it that can not be seen, or if there is some thing not right with an o ring it is possible for it not to work while looking like it should.
Also make sure that the brine piston housing is clean on the inside as build up on the inside could stop an o ring from sealing like it should.

yankcrime74 11-11-2013 04:45 PM

Ok will try tearing back out and double checking all that. But I can say o rings were not torn or worn however they did not entirely fill groove they are set in is that normal?
