Cracked grout on shelf over sink - How to fix? Regrout? Caulk?

I have a shelf over my bathroom sink that is tiled. The grout in the joint with the wall has become cracked, and it looks awful and would like to fix it.

This is a shelf above the sink; there isn't really any water that ever gets up there so this is cosmetic.

Do I scrape out the grout and put new grout? Would caulk be better? I'm not sure about this stuff, still.

See attached photos.

Regrouting might work but that joint will likely open during change of seasons. Likely caulk it to make it last. Put some masking tape down on the edges of the crack when/if you caulk. Caulk, run wet finger along the groove to smooth/remove excess, remove tape.

Do I need to remove any of the grout first? Or, literally just fill in the crack with caulk?

Thanks!

use a high quality siliconized latex caulk and you can go right over the grout as is.

Cracked grout on shelf over sink - How to fix? Regrout? Caulk?

Hey guys,

So I picked up some siliconized latex/acrylic caulk (I got the DAP ALEX PLUS: http://www.harborfreight.com/dap-ale...ulk-95780.html).

This was my first time caulking, so I made quite a mess, but I was able to get it cleaned up.

Looks a lot better, I think, but the problem seems to be that the crack is still slightly visible (see attachment). Can I put another layer over it or should I remove everything to try again?

Thanks for the advice.

I think it looks great especially for your first time! I'd leave it alone for a while and see if it recracks; if so, redo it again.
You notice any imperfections because you're looking for them; I'm sure no one else sees them.
