Cover for artesian well?

I recently visited friends in the country. They have an artesian well which is about 40 years old. It is made from 36" inside diameter concrete sections, but the cover is just a thin piece of plastic. A branch fell on the cover and broke it.

We replaced it with a plastic cover in much better condition.

After doing some reseach on the web, my understanding is that a concrete cover is required to be legal. But I was not able to find one locally, closest one I found is made 300 miles away in Maine.

For those who have artesian wells, what do you use for a cover?

Thanks.

Build your own concrete cover.

Great idea, don't forget to put some rebar into it to keep it from breaking apart. I would probably use #4 on about 8" centers in both directions wire tied with a cross.

And maybe a (rebar) loop or two for lifting.
