Constant water running but no leaks

For the last 3-4 months I have been hearing what sounds like a water leak. I can hear it from every room in the house. It is very faint, my wife cannot hear it. I have turned off all the faucets, I have no sprinkler, and checked the meter. The meter showed no movement over 15 minutes and the leak detection triangle did not move.

I turned the water off at the meter and bled the lines and still heard the running water, no change, a constant running water sound. I have had three different leak detection services come ot to check on it, two of them could hear it. Two of them checked for leaks using the sthethoscope and sonar and one did a pressure check using nitrogen. The third and most recent since the other tests had already been done only did the meter check mentioned above.

No leaks were found! I turned all the power off thinking it may be an electrical problem, no difference. It has started to get louder and there is no significant increase in my water bill. I've run out of ideas, please help.

I had a similar problem with the last house I purchased. I turned off all the water in the house and could still hear it. I then turned off my main in the house and no difference. I had the city come and turn the water off at the city main at the street. Voila the sound went away. The result was that somewhere between the city's main and my house the pipe was leaking enough that I could hear the water running inside. Ran a new line to the house end of problem. Hope this helps/

That's strange... I have no clue what could be the problem. But it's worth checking Okiewebie's supposition.

Is your meter in the house or near the street in a meter pit??

If it's in your house did you try what fixrite was talking about ? Makes sense that the sound would transmit thru the water line into the house even if the leak was out near the source.
