Usually - yes.
However, the place I live in, the floor drains are connected to a
"catch-basin"/"grease-trap".
Yours could be different.

Columbus Ohio Basement floor drain


The floor drain is connected to the main sewer but it was pluged by someone and the water is going in and out the pipe in the drain bowl(I don't know what else to call it)
