Cold supply hums loudly, only when running outside spigot.

Hello all, I have a problem with my cold supply line humming when I run my spigot that goes to my back yard. The spigot is the highest point in the cold supply other than where it branches off and heads up stairs to fixtures. The humming starts almost right when I turn the spigot on, and stops as soon as I turn the spigot off. Also, I never hear the humming when I run any other fixture in the house, in front of or behind the spigot. I re-piped my house last winter in an effort to run all my supply lines along the side of my basement, as I am finishing the basement. I also had to replace that spigot when I re piped, as the old one had froze and cracked (idiots that owned the house before me left the hose on ans the spigot open all winter), Im wondering what could be causing this?

Thanks!

-Brent

Loose washer where it seals inside the sillcock, high water pressure, pipe not clamped close enough.

Yep---usually a loose washer --pull out the stem and inspect/tighten/replace the washer---

So are you guys saying to unscrew the spigot from the copper inside the house, or are you saying to take the handle off and pull the guts out of the spigot? Thanks! Would have wrote back sooner, but it kept telling me my password was wrong! Got it now! THANKS!

Comes apart on the outside.

Turn off the water supply and remove the guts from the outside. There will be a washer at the end of the long stem.

Right on thanks joe!

Just replace it with a ball valve. Why mess with it? Life is too short to waste time on a valve.
