Clawfoot tub faucet diverter not working

My clawfoot tub faucet is in need of repair. The lever that controls the tub or shower option stopped working. It became very loose and I could not get water to come out at all. I can't find much info about this on the web. From what I can gather its a compression valve problem?? There appears to be a torn plastic washer. Can this brass fitting be removed and replaced? Help!

what washer? what brass fitting? I can't see what you have.

Good thing everyone has a digital camera and you can attach pictures to your posts... huh? Do that and we'll try again... OK?

That's odd because I did attach a photo and I can see it.

Probably.

It appears that the brass fitting has threads in the center...
probably for a handle. Put that handle or a bolt in there and pull.
That should get it out.

Find a really good plumbing supply house.
Take the fitting and the picture there.
