I have an old claw foot tub that sits almost in the middle of a bathroom and has a faucet with the shower piping extending up from it and held in place with some suspended wiring from the ceiling.
The faucet needs to be replaced but I can not find it anywhere ... checked local big top shops and the local plumbing stores. The local plumbing store could order but only a pretty fancy and pricey one. This is not a nice bathroom ... only used on an occassion so I was hoping to find something basic. Anyone know where I could find something like this?
When I was in college back in the other "ought-one", I plumbed a shower onto a clawfoot tub with 1/2" galvanized pipe and gate valves. I created the "shower walls" by hanging a rectangular frame from the ceiling and overlapped three shower curtains from it that just hung down into the tub.
I had valves on a hot and a cold line that both flowed into one shower stand pipe. The galvanized was strong enough to stand on its on of course. Worked like a charm.
It was rustic, but cheap and functional. You could easily do that as an alternative, and even could paint the pipe to match the bathroom if you wanted. Just a thought.
