City runs amuck

I'm well experienced with Back-Flow Preventers and understand their purpose. Our City recently issued letters to small business owner stating that they had to install BPD's on their businesses--PERIOD! A friend has an auto parts store ,with rest rooms, and when he called to question this they did send out a rep from the City Water Department to explain that he had "Chemicals" on the shelf (carb cleaners, brake cleaners, car wash materials, etc.) which could be introduced into the City water supply via a back-flow incidence. Better yet--across the street, a few doors down there is an "Adult Lingerie and Toy Store", one rest room. She has to install a BPD because of the "Massage Oils" which she sells within her store. Of course the City does highly recommend three (3) local plumbing companies listed on the letter they send although you are not obligated to use them. Rip off or not! David
