Checking to see if there is moisture around a shower?

I've used a moisture detector on the walls around a shower, and can't find any signficant moisture. Is this enough to show there is no leak problem? Or do I have to cut holes in the walls?

Thanks

What leads you to believe there's a leak in the first place?

We had someone living in that room who complained about a musty smell. But she never opened the windows so I don't know if I believe her.
All the drywall I tested around the shower and bathroom are dry, so I don't know if I would be wasting my time cutting into the walls.

Musty smell? Could have been dirty towels left to dry---If your tests showed nothing--I'd just give the place a good scrubbing and then repaint.

If you live in the city and have a meter at the street, you can check for a water leak in the wall by turning off all the valves in the house, and watching the meter to see if it is moving.

Usually you would SEE signs of leaking through the drywall though.
