Changing deck-mounted tub filler

We are remodeling our bathroom and changing out deck-mounted tub faucet. I have not done this before, but I understand it's a lot easier to do if you find a hardware kit from the same manufacturer.

My question is: what has to be done to if we choose a faucet from a different manufacturer? Are these things usually sweat soldered? What other parts will I need? I'll probably get a plumber to install it but I want to make sure I have all the right parts.

Most brands have the option of sweat connections or large flex lines----

Are you redoing the deck? The biggest concern will be the locations of the existing holes.
