Changing anode rod

I have a 22-year-old oil fired Aero water heater which is working well yet has never had the anode rod changed. Should I change it now or is the risk of removal greater than the risk of just leaving it in place and forgetting about it? All thoughts on this matter are greatly appreciated.

What sort of water quality do you have?

At 22 years you are already beyond the useful life.
I hard to see anything being gained by messing with the install
when you're likely to need to do that anyway before too long.
