Ceramic shower stem drop in replacement

Hi all,
I had to do an emergency replacement of a 2-handle Gerber shower stem valve with the HomeDepot Danco 11B-1 stem. It fits fine but I'd really like to "upgrade" to 1/4 turn ceramic stem.
So, question: Is there a straight drop-in (or screw in ;-)) ceramic stem that can replace the 11B-1 or would this be an open the wall job?
A couple of forums I looked at seemed to obliquely suggest that Gerber had come up with straight ceramic replacements for the original compression stems but I could not find any definitive answers.
