cast iron lavatory sink

I can not decide if I want to install a vitreous china sink or cast iron sink in my bathroom.

The application is a counter top round 19" self rimming sink on a granite tiled vanity counter.

Should the heavy weight of cast iron be a concern?

Is their a true advantage of cast iron over vitreous china?

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Is the cast iron enameled? If so, then the obvious advantage is strength. If something heavy drops on it, it'll withstand it or maybe a small chip may pop off... easy to repair/hide. Not so easy to repair a gaping hole in ceramic. The weight should be of no concern, I would think.

Repairing enameled cast iron will never look the same . It is hard to get the color to match just right. I'm pretty cheap, but I would always go for a basic china lavatory that you can replace for 40 or 50 bucks if needed.

That being said, i'm not sure what you'd be dropping into a lavatory that would cause it to chip or crack. I'd be more concerned with the kitchen.

True, but like I said, the enamel with iron under it will take a lot more abuse withOUT chipping than will ceramic. IF it chips though, the color matching is almost always a problem, yeah. I've seen ranges/ovens/stoves with chip repairs that may as well have just been painted on with latex....(or possibly WERE!) lol ....and in colors 20 shades different too no less, so there I have to agree with you!
