Cast iron closet flange question

Hi everyone,

First post here! Looks like an awesome community to be a part of!

We're working on a bathroom remodel, and just had the plumber finish the plumbing rough-in (the only part that's not DIY). I had to remove the closet flange to make some subfloor repairs and now am not sure how to put it back together.

It is a 2 piece cast iron flange. The top and bottom are connected via 4 bolts. The flange goes OVER the cast waste pipe. The question is regarding the rubber gasket. Where exactly does it go? Does it squish between the top and bottom halves of the flange? That seems to be what it wants to do.

Thanks!

Cast iron closet flange question

the bottom part goes on first then the rubber then the top. the rubber should be beveled to fit one way.

Thanks Danny, this is what I was suspecting. Which way should the bevel go? I believe I read somewhere it's bevel down? Is the seal formed by the compression of the rubber between the two pieces?
