Can't Line Up Vanity Handles

Redid my vanity a little bit, was leaking, so now it doesn't leak.
But no matter how I try to put the handles back on, they won't match up.
Picture attached. I can't tell if I can reset parts under the handle (but attached to the handle) to match better, or if I need to reset the white body part that is under the handle (but attached to the sink). I think option 2 is probably wrong as there are these plastic tabs that only allow the white body part to sit in one way.

Would appreciate any insight!
