Can you solder within an inch of a closed shut off valve?


Yeah, I regret not using type L. I remember reading up on it and one of the sites I read said either M or L was fine for domestic water, but I now know it seems that people disagree with this depending on their local codes/what they know. Seems like L is best, and from now on I will use type L for domestic water.

L is best and as you said M is often allowed. In your case, you used maybe 18" on a branch line- no problem

Whether or not you need your plumbing to last 150 years, I don't know.
