Can you replace faucet handles without too much trouble?

So I want cross-handles for my faucets in the bathroom - and I'm searching and finding nothing in my pricerange. . . looks sell, apparently.

But can't I just buy a basic faucet and replace the handles at some point? If I'm planning on doing this what are some things I need to watch for?

It depends on the brand of faucet you buy. You can't just buy a faucet and put whatever cross handles you find laying in someone's yard sale later onto it.

Then I'll be sure to look into it a bit more when I choose my faucet - I'll see what's available to fit it later.

Thanks
