Can you connect a shower waste pipe to toilet waste?

I have had my bathroom changed to a wet room recently due to disability. But the plumber has connected the shower waste pipe to the toilet waste. Is this standard practice.

Or will there be a danger of odours coming from the toilet waste to the shower room.

thanks.

This is standard practice. As long as the shower drain has a p-trap and the systems properly vented you should have no problems. If, on the other hand, you notice an odor coming from the shower drain or gurgling in the drain when the toilet is flushed then you have a problem that needs correcting.

Just take sniff around the drain and if you don't have a trap, you will smell the sewer gas.

Unique 2 part gully for simplified installation.
Suitable for use with flexible sheet flooring.
Top access gully has a removable inner cup for easy cleaning.
Flow rate in excess of 40 litres per minute.

Your p-trap would have to be somewhere downstream from that horizontal outlet pipe and would be considered a running p-trap. Is this shower adjacent to a bath tub? If so, it may share the tub trap. If it connects directly to the toilet waste pipe without a trap, it will allow sewage gas up through the shower drain.

I dont think he has installed a running p-trap in the horizontal outlet pipe.

Call your plumber and ask. If thre is no water seal you will smell stinky gas coming out of the shower drain. Hard to say how your plumber installed this but if he values his reputation he will have installed it properly.

That drain looks like some sort of bucket trap- not allowed in my area. Do you have more info on it or a brand name?

Thats new to me, but I like the look of it. I'm planning to put in a shower in my basement and the trap will be below the slab level.
Being easy to clean would be a plus, in my opinion.

New to me too. Not sure how many inches a 50 mm trap seal is, but you do have a trap so you shouldn't have to worry about sewer gas.

Look at that. Line 1. It does have a trap built into it. The OP is good to go.
