Can I run a new hot water line off a tee

My water heater has a tee with a 1/2" pine that is capped. It is the very first tee on the line. I am not sure if it is there for a reason or just as a future connection.

Can I go ahead and remove the cap and run my hot water line off of it or am I better off cutting the line a few feet away and starting a new tee?

Thanks.

Leo

If its just capped off and is big enough for what you need then I dont see any reason not to use it.

Thats exactly what I thought. The only thing is that the water hammers I have seen are longer and are round at the end. This is just a 1/2 pipe with a cap on soldered onto it.

I doubt its an air chamber due to its location and length. Besides, air chambers dont work very well for preventing water hammer. Use the tee. If later on you develop water hammer then you can install a true water hammer arrestor.

You just have to defer to someone who actually knows what they're talking about.
