Can I install a basement toilet directly into soil stack and without a vent?
Want to build a half-bath in a basement. Can install toilet where the soil stack is directly on the other side of a wall. Thought of using a toilet with a back outlet or using a wall mount toilet. Flooring has radiant heat tubing, so there's problems with opening up the floor. First of all, can I install directly into the soil stack, and would a vent be needed or does the soil stack act as a vent?

Thanks for any help, clarification of code requirements.

If the stack receives waste from fixtures above then yes you can. If it is dry then no you can not

Many thanks, and any suggestions re toilet type?
All drains from sinks, lavatories, washing machine from upper two floors empty into this stack. When building the house, I had mentioned to the plumber that I might want to add a toilet, so he put a cleanout in the stack at the floor level. The toilet would be installed approximately 3-1/2" away from stack on the other side of the wall. Don't think that I would lose too much, if any, of the siphon effect. I'll be putting in a sink but can vent that to a bar sink above which has its own vent to roof.

Any suggestions re toilet type? Bad reviews on the American Standard wall mount with tank. Wall mounts with the container would change where I would build the opposite wall, plus more expensive. Any known problems with the back outlet toilets?

Thanks so much again.....and for reminding me to add the state in which I live.
